FSC Friday - 26th September 2008
Thu 17 Jul 2008
FSC UK will be holding the inaugural “FSC Friday” in September this year. It is envisaged that the day will provide a focus for FSC promotions and activities, in the same way as Fairtrade Fortnight highlighted the work of the The Fairtrade Foundation. FSC Friday will lead in to a weekend of FSC related activities.
We are keen to promote the importance of UK forests and woodlands and we will be encouraging people to visit their local FSC certified site. We hope that various NGOs and local organisations will help us by holding FSC related events over the weekend.
FSC UK’s Marketing Officer, Rosie Teasdale, explains “We hope that businesses and other organisations can come together to highlight the FSC message. If we can, at the very least, make people more aware of FSC as an environmental mark for forest products then this will be a start. We are aware that it can be hard to convey the full meaning of FSC but the success of the Fairtrade campaigns demonstrates the value of informing consumers about the source of their products.”
Several retailers and certified companies have already expressed an interest in working with us to ensure that “FSC Friday” succeeds in promoting the FSC message. This could be through promotions in store, press releases, donations of prizes or by organising or supporting specific events.
Following on from the success of the FSC competitions last year, FSC UK will be launching several competitions and prize draws to coincide with FSC Friday.
Please contact the FSC UK office if you would like to be involved in FSC Friday in any way or if you would like details of events.
