FSC Friday

Mon 8 Sep 2008

Friday 26th September is FSC Friday!

The aim of FSC Friday is to raise awareness of the FSC logo and encourage people to look for the logo when buying wood or paper products.  Several FSC certified companies will be offering discounts on their FSC ranges for FSC Friday.     Warren Evans, for example, will be offering a 10% discount on their bespoke FSC beds.

FSC UK is also hoping to highlight the importance of UK forests and there will be a range of events taking place in FSC certified forests over the weekend.  Please contact the FSC UK office (rosie@fsc-uk.org) for more information on these activities or if you are interested in holding an event or promotion.

FSC UK’s Marketing Officer, Rosie Teasdale, explains “We want to use FSC Friday to make people more aware of the importance of responsible forestry and the role of FSC.  Ancient forests are still being destroyed at an alarming rate and the products of illegal logging do find their way into the British marketplace.  The FSC logo gives consumers confidence that they are not supporting this destructive industry.”

In a recent survey, only 23% of those questioned recognised the FSC logo. However, once the FSC concept was explained,59% stated that they would probably, or definitely choose FSC products in the future. This confirms our belief that British consumers want to buy wood and paper products safe in the knowledge that they are not damaging ancient forests, or jeopardising the wildlife or the future of the people who live and work in the forests.  The FSC logo gives this assurance and we need to make more people aware of it.”

“The FSC logo is appearing on a growing number of products.  As well as garden furniture and timber for DIY, the logo can now be seen on books, magazines, tissues, food packaging, wooden toys and much more.  We hope that FSC Friday will encourage consumers to look out for these FSC products when they are out shopping – and make every day an FSC Day!”
