FSC certification of the Olympic and Paralympic Village

Award presented by Charles Thwaites MBE to Andrew Kinsey of Lend Lease (© FSC UK)© FSC UKThe Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA) outlined in its 2008 Sustainable Development Strategy the strict requirement for all contractors to only source legal and sustainable timber during construction of the London 2012 Olympic Park.  To ensure this commitment was met, the entire Olympic Park including all of the key venues has undergone a dual certification process which includes collaboration with FSC.

One of ODA's key projects was the Olympic and Paralympic Village.  Once the Village achieved FSC project certification, the achievement was recognised with an FSC UK Award for Outanding Contribution to the FSC System, which was presented to Bovis Lend Lease.

The village housed athletes and officials during the Olympic Games in 2012, before being cleverly adapted to form a new residential neighbourhood known as the East Village.  The East Village will comprise a mixture of privately rented and owned homes and affordable social housing. The 11 blocks of flats and townhouses, each designed by a different architect, will provide 2,818 homes for 6,000 Londoners.
