Seed of an Idea - FSC Friday 2015
© Snows TimberSnows Timber are planting the seeds of future wood supplies for this year's FSC Friday.
"This is the 10th year of Snows Timber’s chain of custody certification, so it seems only right that we do something special for FSC® Friday 2015. September is always a busy time in the timber trade, with both the Builders Merchants Federation’s annual members’ day and the Timber Trade Journal Awards immediately preceding FSC Friday. So for Snows Timber, with our main customer base amongst these key groups of timber and builders merchants, we had to think of something easy that customers would be positively pleased to do. What better than something they can do with their children or extended family, and what better than planting the seed of future wood supplies?
Encouraging the customers and the public to think positively about timber & wood products was a struggle before FSC Friday came along. Outside the trade, media coverage frequently centered on less than good news about forests and their sustainability. FSC Friday has given all those involved in the wood supply chain a chance to show that it is possible not only to have but to enjoy the connection with responsibly-sourced wood and wood products.
This year for FSC Friday, Snows Timber is giving to its builders merchant and timber merchant customers small packets of Spruce tree seeds, to help make them aware of the campaign and to enliven the rightly serious business of using responsibly-sourced timber. We also hope that in 80 or so years’ time, there will be small stands of Snows-inspired Spruce trees across the country, contributing to FSC’s aim of ‘Forests forever, for all’."
