Recycle your Christmas cards at Sainsbury’s and support FSC UK

• Sainsbury’s will recycle all collected Christmas cards and make a donation to FSC UK in the New Year based on the volume collected in all its stores.
• Recycling initiative includes ‘paper’ wrapping paper and Christmas lights, helping to reduce the amount of household waste going to landfill.
Sainsbury’s is providing an in-store Christmas card recycling service to support FSC UK to help protect the world’s forests.
Between 26th December 2015 – 13th January 2016, customers can recycle their Christmas cards via an in-store collection point available front of store.
The initiative has grown this year, with collection boxes in over 1,000 Sainsbury’s supermarkets and convenience stores throughout the country. Online customers can also have their cards collected from their homes when they receive their online shop, making it easier to recycle and help reduce the amount of waste going to landfill.
Sainsbury’s will recycle all collected Christmas cards and make a donation to FSC UK in the New Year based on the volume collected in all its stores. Last year, customers donated 87 tonnes, the weight equivalent of over 500 reindeers, resulting in a donation of over £12,000 to FSC UK, to support our work to promote responsible management of the world’s forests.
Sainsbury’s Head of Sustainability, Paul Crewe said: “We’ve always had a brilliant response from customers in previous years and with their help, we’re hoping to make an even bigger contribution this time. The recycling initiative is a great way to support the invaluable work of the FSC and help customers to tackle Christmas waste and put it to positive use”.

Recycling paper results in less waste going to landfill, reduces the pressure on forests, and helps to give future generations the gift of forests for all forever.”
Additionally, for the second year running, all ‘paper’ wrapping paper can be placed in the Christmas card recycling collection boxes to support this activity. The initiative has also been extended to include Christmas lights as well as ribbons and plastic wrapping paper; customers can bring these in to any Sainsbury’s supermarket for recycling.
