Forest Management Group Standard Revision Begins

Group Scheme Revision

After 10 years of use, the Secretariat will revise FSC-STD-30-005 V1-1 FSC Standard for Group Entities in Forest Management Groups with the aim of making it more accessible for big operations, smallholders and communities.

At their September 2018 call, the Board of Directors accepted a recommendation from the Policy and Standards Committee to fully revise the standard public consultation minor changes to terms and definitions, and to a requirement in 2017. Additionally, two targeted stakeholder surveys were conducted with group managers and members of groups. More information can be found on the group standard project page.

The standard will now undergo a comprehensive revision under the New Approaches to Smallholders and Communities Certification project (New Approaches).

As a next step, FSC is seeking candidates for an eighteen-month project with experience in managing big and small forest owner groups, community forests, and auditing forest management standards to revise FSC-STD-30-005 V1-1 FSC Standard for Group Entities in Forest Management Groups.

If you have any questions, comments, or concerns regarding the group certification standard revision process, please contact Joachim Meier-Dörnberg at j.meier-doernberg@fsc.org. For questions regarding the New Approaches project activities concerning the normative framework, please contact project manager, Vera Santos at v.santos@fsc.org.
