FSC audits during the coronavirus pandemic
Since March 2020 FSC has responded to the health risks and travel restrictions brought about by the coronavirus pandemic by publishing, and updating in line with the developing situation around the world, derogations for FSC certification bodies unable to conduct on-site audits.
The latest update can be found here. This includes the amended general auditing derogation, FSC-DER-2020-001, which states: “Surveillance audits may be postponed for a period not exceeding six (6) months beyond the maximum audit cycle. All other requirements including the requirement to have 4 surveillance audits within one certification cycle remain unaffected.” This derogation also makes provision for desk and hybrid audits where on-site audits are unable to be carried out.
